The natural dye shade charts below are primarily to show some of the range of beautiful shades possible with Blue Castle Natural Dyes.
The individual charts below are scanned and not the most accurate representation
of the actual shades. They could also show up differently on your computer monitor. The colors are actually more intense and
stunning, best represented in the first photo of all the shades. Please
do not use these charts to try to replicate an exact shade. Colors turn out differently on various fibers but the charts give a good idea of color depth and what percentage of dye to use based on the weight of fiber or yarn. The third column in the chart indicates what percentage of each dye color to use based on the weight of material to be dyed. For example, if the chart says 40%, then based on 100 gm of fiber or yarn, you would use 40 gms of dye.
below are on wool yarn using mainly our Herbal Mordant. Alum will give
brighter shades - you can compare this difference with the Blood Red and
Turkey Red below which have Alum-mordanted charts as well. There are a number of other mineral mordants such as iron, tin and chrome. Some are considered more toxic and many dyers choose not to use them but they can be used with our dyes if you wish.
You can also see on some charts that dyes can be combined to create even more colors. These charts show eight of our colors. Additional colors now available are: Blackberry, Eco-Orange, Garnet Brown, Hill Brown and Sun Yellow.
